INFO
• Registration for all Võhandu Marathon events is done under one account.
• You can choose between different marathon events after logging into your account.
• Registration for the competition takes place at https://www.vohandumaraton.ee/en/registration/
• anyone over the age of 18 (included) can participate in the marathon, provided they have trained sufficiently in order to complete the distance.
• Those younger than 18 can only participate with a parent or under the parent's responsibility
• the registration opens every year on the 1st of January.
• Registration for the main race of the marathon ends on March 31 or until 1,500 boat spaces are filled. If one of these conditions is met, the registration will be closed.
By registering for the Võhandu Marathon, participant:
• Confirms that he has read the instructions and the safety manual;
• On viinud ennast kurssi võistluse eripäradega, selle kestvusega ja teab sellega kaasnevaid ohtusid;
• Is aware of the specifics of the competition and knows the dangers involved;
• Allow the use of photos and videos taken of them during the event for promotional purposes.
REGISTRATION WITH A GIFT CARD
Gift card is valid for one competitor (there may be exceptions if it is so marked on the gift card).
When registering the boat team, please make sure to note the GIFT CARD CODE in the notes, for example: vm2021006 and the competitor's name.
The gift card can be used for registration until March 31 or until the number of boats specified in the guide is filled. NB! If one of these conditions is met, the gift card becomes invalid. Registration will open on the first second of the new year. NB! The gift card only covers the participation costs related to the entry fee. All other goods and services ordered must be paid according to the invoice presented.
SALE OF GIFT CARDS
A gift card is a great way to give an adventurous gift to your friend.
It's also good for giving as a gift to an enemy 🙂
Gift cards can be purchased all year round. The cost of the gift card depends on the prices of the registration round for the marathon.
The gift card is an A4 size double-sided color printed laminated card.
We ask the owner of the gift card to register for the marathon as soon as possible. Registration for the Võhandu Marathon and the Open Trail race is opened on the first second of every year.
NB! Order a card a few days before the gift! We send the gift card to the parcel machine. Other ways of delivery by agreement.

For repeated participations, please check that the name is spelled the same every year. This guarantees the correct display of your participation times in the statistics of the years.
Please notify us of name changes by e-mail so that we can also make the corresponding changes in the database.
When entering the name, please ensure that there are no errors in the name.

- when writing foreign names, use the same spelling (Cyrillic/Latin letters).
It is forbidden to participate in the marathon under another person's name, and it is also not allowed to use a false or invented name.
- Competition fees are calculated based on the number of participants in a boat.
- Registration for the main race of the marathon ends on March 31 every year or until 1,500 boat spaces are filled. If one of these conditions is met, the registration will be closed.

- If you cancel your participation, the participation fee will not be returned, upon written agreement with the organizers, half of the paid participation fee will be counted as future credit for the participant, which he can use when registering for the next Võhandu Marathon events.
- NB! The participation fee discount is calculated separately from the ordered products and services.
- If you have additionally ordered products and services (GPS, energy package, etc.), the discount does not extend to them.
- All ordered products can be picked up during the distribution of starting materials at the start center of the competition, during its opening hours.
- The credit is valid for 1 year. To conclude an agreement, you must send a letter to the email address vohandumaraton@gmail.com
- If the marathon is canceled for reasons beyond the control of the organizers or due to force majeure, the participation fee will not be refunded.
- Force majeure means any unforeseen event, the time and manner of which the organizer cannot control or prevent.
- All man powered and unmotorised floating devices are allowed to participate.
- NB! The organisers will not rent out boats or any equipment. If you don't have a boat, you have to find it yourself.
You can rent a limited number of kayaks, canoes, SUPs and RAFTs from our partners by making the appropriate arrangements yourself.
You can find equipment lenders on the page: RENT - NB! Only crafts listed in this Competition Manual will have their results recorded.
- It is FORBIDDEN to switch a kayak, a canoe or any other watercraft during the competition.
- NB! Teams who have switched a watercraft will have results recorded separately from the main competition (UNK - unknown).
- All boats not specified in the manual, including canoes and kayaks with a crew larger than specified in the manual, will receive a results recorded separately from the main competition (UNK - unknown).
- If a team, whose result does not apply under main competition results, achieves a prizewinning place then the team will not be awarded.

RULES FOR THE CANOE CLASS
- Participant in a canoe class (C1 or C2) has to use a C1 oar with a single paddle. It is forbidden to use a double-ended paddle.
- The maximum nor minimum width of the canoe is not determined.
- Rudder and drop keel are forbidden on all canoe types.
- It is allowed to use a spray hood all along the cockpit.
- It is allowed to fill boat's empty parts with air tanks.
- It is forbidden to use a kayak or its modifications in the canoe class.
- It is forbidden to remodel a kayak into a canoe
- All canoes have to be able to stay afloat in case of flipping over
- All loose objects in the canoe have to be attached to the canoe.
RULES FOR RAFT BOATS
- All rafts have to be inflatable, with an even bottom and without a rudder.
- A rudder is any device that is attached to or supported on a RAFT to maintain or change the course of the RAFT.
- An oar or paddle held by a competitor is not considered to be a rudder
- The length of the rafts must not exceed their triple width, i.e. the maximum allowed ratio between length and width is three. For example, if the width of the raft is 1.5 m the length should not be more than 1.5 x 3 = 4.5 m etc.
- It is not allowed to change the shape of the raft by any means, it has to be in compliance with the original factory-made requirements.
- Each RAFT class competitor must use a C1 single paddle. The use of double-ended paddles is forbidden.
- The referee may check the raft’s conformity either during the start, on the course, or at finish.
- The number of people in a raft is not regulated, however, the recommended size of a team is between 4-8 members.
- Teams using rafts that do not comply with the implemented rules will have their results recorded separately from the main competition (UNK-unknown).
- All raft teams mentioned in the previous point will receive a participant medal, however, they will not be awarded in case they achieve a prize-winning place in their class (RAFT).
- Võhandu Marathon is organised by the Ekstreempark Sports Club in cooperation with the Võrumaa Sports Federation and Paddling Federation of Estonia.
- The length of the course is 100 km. The cut-off time is 24 hours.
- LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY: It will be difficult and physically exhausting in any case. Depending on the weather and water level, it can be dangerous to very dangerous.
- The main risk - injured palms, general overexhaustion, loss of equipment during a rollover, hypothermia.
- It can take a long time for help to arrive and find the victim in difficult-to-access terrains.
NB! The involvement of support team is STRICTLY RECOMMENDED!
COURSE
VÕHANDU MARATHON will take place on Saturday 19 April 2025. The mass startis at 7.00 AM at Lake Tamula in Võru.
- The start takes place in groups. ELITE / SUPER / MARATHON. The lake circuit is clockwise and the start is parallel to the beach.
- Competitors are distributed among the starting groups according to the result achieved in the previous year. You can get into the Elite and Super starting group through inspection. Elite and Supper group competitors have a corresponding mark on their bib number.
NB! Violation of the elite group starting line (crossing before the start) is punishable by a 30 minute fine for each boat that violates it.
- ELITE - The first 100 finished boats of the previous marathon - Check your result
- SUPER - Boats that finished 101-200 in the previous marathon
- MARATHON - all boats that do not have a legitimate interest in starting in the elite and super group.
- Participants will be informed on possible changes to the start time and place (delayed start, start in waves, start location, etc.) caused by weather, ice or other obstacles at least 24h before the announced start time via Võhandu Maraton web page, facebook and/or by email.
- Be sure to bring your boat on Friday and take out the starting materials. Or even better why not have a weekend off and arrive in Võru on Thursday. This gives you time to prepare equipment and enjoy the pre-start activities at the Competition Centre.
- Upon arrival to Võru visit the Competition Centre first. There you will get all necessary materials and information.
- You can leave boats and trailers in the secured car park next to the Competition Centre.
- Starting materials will be issued in Võru, at the competition fair center.

- Those who started under the wrong name will be disqualified.
- When replacing a lost or forgotten start number at the start, €15 must be paid.
- NB! Substitution will only take place if there are free start numbers.
Start materials will be distributed at the Competition Centre in Võru:

- Based on experience from previous years it is recommended to arrive in Võru on Friday or even better on Thursday
- If possible, bring your boat to the Competition Centre on Friday and get your start materials from the organisers.
- NB! The Võhandu marathon has TWO STARTING AREAS (MAP) which are located close to each other on the shore of Lake Tamula.

BE ON SITE EARLY ON THE MORNING OF COMPETITION!
- There will be changes in the traffic pattern near the Competition Centre on the morning of competition. Some streets will be closed.
- There might be no parking spots left near the Start site and getting your boat to the lake might take a lot of time.
- Due to the large number of participating boats, it takes approximately up to an hour to get to the Start position with your boat.
- Each team is guaranteed:
- Start numbers with a timing chip (Numbers must be visibly attached to the competitor. One number on the chest and one on the back, larger teams attach numbers to different members. First (front) and rear (back).
- Boat sticker (must be visibly attached to the boat.)
- A waterproof map with necessary information.
- Timing by organisers at control points and at the finish.
- A ranking in the official results.
- Catering (food and drinks) at two control points and at the finish.
- All accompanying vehicles will receive a special map indicating the recommended directions, parking, traffic restrictions and other relevant information for drivers.
- After the start, the Competition Centre in Võru will be closed and moved to Võõpsu village.
- The time limits for passing through each control point are displayed in the table.
- Teams that exceed control point time limits will be called off the course.
- By way of exception, the organisers have the right to shorten the course during the race in the interest of the participant’s safety
- All road bridges crossing the river are control points. There are a total of 16 control points (CP) MAP
- Timing takes place at the control points in the table below.

Finish is located 150 m downstream of the highway bridge of Räpina-Värska highway on the left side of the river. The marathon control time is 24 hours.
The headquarters, changing tents, sauna, car park and the camping ground are located at the Competition Centre near the finish.

It is only allowed to enter the finish area by car for loading the boat. For long-termparking use nearby parking lots and the roadside.
Cars must be parked at the car park of the Competition Centre according to instructions given on site.
It is estimated that the winner will arrive at the finish at 15:00, approx. 8 hours after the start.
The last teams will reach the finish late at night after spending 21-22 hours on the course
Please use an accompanying vehicle so that you have people helping you on the course and necessary equipment at KPs and bridges (food, drink, dry clothes, head torches, medicines etc.)
NB! After having spent at least 10 hours on the course, we advise you not to drive the car yourself. Use another driver or stay the night at Võõpsu or Räpina before you start the journey home.
Transport from finish back to start
- For those who have arrived at the marathon without a support team (no accompanying car), we offer paid transportation back to Võru after the finish. Transport to Võru is organized only from the finish center in Võõpsus four times, approximately at 18:00; 20:00; 22:00; 24:00. You can get more detailed information from the staff.
- NB! Boat transport is not possible.
- The transfer costs EUR 15 per person, payment in cash to the service provider.
NB! We do not recommend using this option.
FIND YOURSELF A SUPPORT TEAM! - If you want to quit the marathon, please make sure you do it at a control point (KP).
- If quitting at the control point, you MUST notify the organizers by calling or sending an SMS to the marathon information number (+372 52 10 800) and you will be registered as a finisher at the relevant control point. (more info on the map and control point).

- NB! The organisers are not responsible for the transportation of participants from the control points to the finish or to Võru.
- Based on previous experience and the difficulty level, distance and length of the marathon we have reached the conclusion that it is necessary to use ACCOMPANYING VEHICLES.
- It is ALLOWED and RECOMMENDED to use outside help for carrying the boat around obstacles.
- In addition, remember!
- After the start at approx. 9:00, the competition center in Võru will be closed and moved to Võõpsu.
- All cars parked at the start centre and on the streets of Võru are unguarded and are the responsibility of the car owners.
- In case of a long race, it is recommended that the competitor plan to spend the night near the competition center and rest properly before going home.
- The contestant is in danger of falling asleep on the way home. If this happens while driving, the competitor has a high risk of getting into a traffic accident.
The time is fixed by the organizers at the start, control points (KP) and finish.
In order to receive a result, the team must wear the issued start number visibly throughout the marathon.
NB! A chip is stuck on the back of the number, which is essential for fixing the result. Please don't remove the chip from the number.
The results are immediately visible on the Internet.
All spectators and other participants can follow the race in real time via the Internet. Detailed information will be published on the marathon website www.vohandumaraton.ee on the day of the race
QUITTING in the CONTROL POINTS (KP)
If you want to quit the marathon, please make sure you do it at a control point (KP).
The results of those who finished at the checkpoints are reflected in the split times table after those who finished the full marathon. The result is written down, the time fixed at the last timing point.
If quitting at the control point, you MUST notify the organizers by calling or sending an SMS to the marathon information number (+372 52 10 800) and you will be registered as a finisher at the relevant control point. (more info on the map and control point).
SMS must to be sent in the following form (boat number space finish point. E.g., 1500 Leevaku. Please save the phone number + 372 52 10 800 in your phone. By saving the number in the phone with the name AAA VÕHANDUMARATON, it ensures that the number is always on the first line and can be quickly found and used on the phone in a crisis situation).
NB! The organisers are not responsible for the transportation of participants from the control points to the finish or to Võru.
Based on previous experience and the difficulty level, distance and length of the marathon we have reached the conclusion that it is necessary to use ACCOMPANYING VEHICLES.

FIND YOURSELF ACCOMPANYING VEHICLE!
- For those who, despite the organizers' recommendation to use an escort car, have arrived at the marathon without a support team (there is no escort car), we offer paid transportation back to Võru after the finish.
Transport back to Võru is organized ONLY from the finish center in Võõpsus four times, approximately at 18:00; 20:00; 22:00; 24:00. You can get more detailed information from the finish staff. - NB! Boat transport is not possible.
- The transfer costs EUR 15 per person, payment in cash to the service provider.
- If you have decided to finish the marathon without completing it in its entirety, DEFINITELY do it at the KP (check point).
- In case of quiting at the checkpoint, it is MANDATORY to inform the organizers by calling a number (+372 52 10 800) and you will be registered as a quiter at the checkpoint (more information on the map and checkpoint).
- NB! The organizers do not organize the transport of the competitors who have quited at the checkpoints or the vehicles from the checkpoints to the finish or Võru.
- Based on the experience of previous years and taking into account the difficulty level, distance and time length of the marathon. We have come to the conclusion that the use of ESCORT CARS is essential and strictly recommended.
Please use an escort car that will protect you and have the necessary equipment (food, drink, dry clothes, headlamps, pharmacy, etc.) waiting at checkpoints (KP) and bridges. - NB! The use of outside help when transferring boats over bridges is ALLOWED and RECOMMENDED.

CATERING
All participants in the marathon will have FREE catering on the race course.
The wristbands are issued with the start materials
There are three places for catering. (41 km - KP 7) and (76 km - KP 12) and finish (100 km - KP 16).
KP 7 Leevi control point 41 km opens at 9:00 and closes at 16:00
KP 12 Leevaku control point 76 km opens at 12:00 and closes at 23:00
KP 16 Catering at the finish will start at 13:00 and will be closed when the last competitor arrives.
Catering facilities offer soup, energy drinks, water, muffins, bread, salt. At finish porridge with meat cubes, cakes and everything good awaits.
Escort teams are catered for only when they present a food coupon. Food coupons can be bought from the Competition Centre, cataring points an finish..
NB! In addition to the three catering points organised by the organisers, there may be several home cafes and other caterers on the trail.
The marathon organizer does not coordinate the work of the cafes and is not responsible for what is offered there
We recommend participants to take additional food with them in addition to the food
offered at catering points. For example: raisins, nuts, energy bars and definitely something
to drink.
- ON COURSE - There is FREE catering for competitors on the marathon course (you can get the wristbands together with the starting materials)
- SUPPORT TEAM - Each member of the support team costs 15 euros for a wristband that guarantees food at two checkpoints and at the finish line.
- Support team members and spectators can purchase meal wristbands with cash at the start and catering checkpoints.
- PAIDRA checkpoint 31 km opens at 8:30 and closes at 14:00 (Vytautas)
- LEEVI checkpoint 41 km opens at 9:00 and closes at 16:00 (warm food)
- LEEVAKU checkpoint 76 km opens at 12:00 and closes at 23:00 (warm food)
- RÄPINA checkpoint 90 km opens at 13:00 and closes at 03:00 (RedBull)
- VÕÕPSU - Catering at the finish opens at 13:00 and closes when the last competitor arrives (Warm food)
- NB! In addition to the three catering points organized by the organizers, there may be several home cafes and other caterers on the track - catering in these places is provided in cash.
- Those who want an energy package must check the appropriate box when registering for the marathon, and the amount will be added to the boat company's bill.
- The 2022 energy package includes the following products:

- Energy gels are convenient in terms of their packaging, you don't have to consume the entire gel immediately (with a resealable cap).
- 12 energy tablets with vitamins and magnesium are designed to dissolve in the mouth and are packed in a convenient resealable package.
- You can pick up your ordered energy package together with the starting materials at the Enervit tent in the Võhandu Marathon competition center in Võru.

- For all support teams and spectators who want different food at the marathon catering checkpoints, please bring it yourself.

- Make sure there is enough water to drink in the boat.
- Drink regularly every 30 minutes. Drink even if you don't feel like it at the moment.
- Drink bottles can be filled with water at all catering points.
ACCOMMODATION
Camping

- The cheapest way to stay is to bring your own tent. The camping area is at the Roosisaare bridge and in the immediate vicinity of the competition center. Ask information from the competition staff.
- It is forbidden to make a fire in the camping area. Use primrose.
- It is possible to stay in various hotels and guesthouses in Võru and its surroundings.
- A reasonable accommodation radius is a maximum of 80 km from Võru. This is the distance from which, if you start your journey in the morning, you will reach the start of the marathon on time and rested. (the expected driving time from a distance of 80 km is 2 h, so you should start from the accommodation no later than 4:00 a.m. to reach Võru at 6:00 a.m.)!

Camping
Camping in the immediate vicinity of the Võõpsus finish is free. All tented camps are unguarded and the organizers are not responsible for what happens there.
SAFETY AND RESPONSIBILITY
Please thoroughly familiarize yourself with the safety instructione and think through your team's safety plan at the Võhandu Marathon.
Dangers, their avoidance and response to accidents at the Võhandu Marathon SAFETY INSTRUCTIONE
Completing such a long marathon tests the dexterity, physical and mental endurance and health of the competitors. Competitors must take into account that competing in the Võhandu Marathon is a high-risk situation and that they compete at their own risk. The organizers are not responsible for any injuries, traumas, death or similar that may occur to the competitors on the track.
The competitor is obliged to familiarize himself with the dangers present in the marathon.
The competitor is responsible for the condition and safety of his equipment.
The organizers of the marathon bear no material responsibility for items lost or broken during the race.
Pack yourself a small first aid kit (bandage, plasters, pain relievers, etc.).
The local border guard, rescue service and ambulance brigades have been informed about the event.

In case of a more serious incident, immediately notify the organizers by phone and the emergency number 112 (info on the map).

Wearing a life jacket is mandatory. Competitors without a vest will be disqualified.
Wearing a helmet is recommended.
You have to be especially attentive and careful when passing mill dams (fast current, stones) and competiting at night (tree branches, fallen trees, etc.).
Use headlamps at night, at least one per boat.
It is forbidden to transfer (cut) the bases from the river meanders. Violators of the rules will be disqualified.
Throwing garbage into the water and onto the shore is prohibited. Throwing beverage bottles and packaging into the wild will result in immediate disqualification. You can leave the garbage at the checkpoints.
CHECKING AND DETECTION OF A PERSON'S INTOXICATION
Võhandu Marathon follows the rules of the World Anti-Doping Code.
Persons with obvious signs of intoxication or in an intoxicated state will be disqualified.
The organizer has the right to invite the Police or, in the case provided by law, another law enforcement agency to check the state of intoxication, which checks the presence of alcohol, narcotic or psychotropic substances or other intoxicating substances in the person's body.
In case of suspicion of drunkenness, the organizer has the right to prevent the further movement of the boat, the boat will be disqualified and the participation fee will not be refunded.
OBSTRUCTING A COMPETITOR
A boat crew that tries to obstruct the race by holding up fellow competitors will be disqualified.
AWARDING
- NB! All finishers will receive a result in the final protocol and a participation medal!
- Prizes will be awarded to the first twelve (12) boats listed finish protocol
- For all other boat classes specified in the guide, the number of boats that have started in a particular boat class is taken into account.
- 1st place in the boat class is awarded if at least 4 boats have started in the said boat class.
- 2nd place is awarded if at least 5 boats have started in the mentioned boat class.
- 3rd koht jagatakse välja kui nimetatud paadiklassis on startinud vähemalt 6 paatkonda.
- If a team of a boat class not defined in the manual, as well as a UNK-unknown - a self-made or unknown class vehicle comes to the prize place, all such teams will receive a note of the result in the final protocol and a medal, but will not be awarded.
- The medal is awarded to all finishers of the full marathon, regardless of boat class.
- Diplomas are not awarded. Diplomas are available electronically from the website www.vohandumaraton.ee/tulemus/
- The awards will be made in the order of arrival of the competitors at the finish line.
- Raffle prizes will be drawn among all the starters who have passed the first timing point.
- The draw will take place electronically in the finish competition center. The winner's name will be announced at the finish information tent.
- A contestant disqualified from the contest is not eligible to participate in the raffle prize draw. If such a situation occurs, a new draw will be made.
- Raffle prizes can be picked up at the finish information tent.
Raffle prize WK 525 Sport
18. The raffle prize of the Võhandu Marathon is presented by the Estonian kayak manufacturer World of Kayaks.
This kayak, costing more than €2,500, made of carbon/kevlar, with good speed and maneuverability and weighing approx. 22 kg, is ideal for participating in river marathons.
In Võhandul, this model has shown fast times and good places throughout the ages. In 2018, the WK 525 won first place in the K1WOM class with a time of 9:58:02.
WK 525 will be drawn among all entrants. The draw will take place electronically at the finish competition center. The lucky winner will receive his/her WK 525 right after finishing.
Raffle prize winner
In 2024, the raffle prize WK525 Sport kayak presented by World of Kayaks was won by Uku, who received his new kayak immediately after the finish.
Next year, we are already waiting for Uku to go to the marathon with his new kayak.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
- The Safety Information Sheet deals with the dangers involved and their prevention and gives advice for minimizing risks.
- All competitors have to be familiar with the possible risks and sign a confirmation document upon receiving the start materials.
- It is mandatory to wear a life jacket. Competitors without a life jacket will be disqualified.
